Background and experience

After a degree in Fine Arts and a decade of owning two day time cafes and a catering business, I moved to Copenhagen to study a degree in Global Nutrition and Health, specialising in Public Health Nutrition and Food Policy. During all these amazing years of studying and working, my true passion was to be a student of yoga and share my love for Ashtanga Yoga in the various cities I found myself living in. For the last 17 years I have been traveling to India as often as I can to study in Mysore and learn directly from the source about the Ashtanga yoga lineage. This quiet, contemplative yet mentally and physically challenging practice has always been a place of refuge that has transformed and supported me in countless ways.

In 2015 I moved to Cape Town to run the Ashtanga school, Mysore Yoga Cape Town. During this period I became interested in bodywork and qualified as a Brain Body Balance (B³) practitioner. is a neuromuscular therapy focused on muscle testing, myofascial release and trigger point therapy. It was a natural progression for me after years of teaching movement and yoga. Many things come up in the body and mind during yoga practice and bodywork was a way to help yoga practitioners with injuries or deeper awareness. It was difficult for me at first to learn how to sense and touch the body in a whole new way and challenged many of my beliefs around taking care of my own physical body and inner self.

In 2019 an opportunity came up to move to America which plunged me into the world of massage. Massage had never been on my radar but in America I needed a massage license for any kind of soft-tissue release work. To my surprise I absolutely fell in love and learned that massage can be so much more than just a day at the spa. Witnessing the body soften and release tension is profound. Whilst in the States, I also received Level 1 & 2 certification in NeuroKinetic Therapy, an application of Motor Control Theory that helps identify muscle imbalances. A fascinating and powerful therapy. I now find myself back home in South Africa and have opened Hiatus Cape Town to continue my work and share it with those who feel that they can benefit from these offerings.
